Colin Macqueen, Director of Technology at Trelleborg Sealing, is the featured speaker January 6 at 2 p.m. at the museum. The lecture is free and open to the public.
While most of us love the “bells and whistles” of modern engineering, we tend to take for granted the smaller intricacies that keep machines running at optimal level. Turcon, a product discovered and manufactured by Trelleborg, is one of those products. Turcon went to Mars in the late 1990s, protecting the rover from fine dust in the drive assembly. It also protected cameras and instruments and a host of other components of the large vehicle that explored the Red Planet.
Turcon seals are used in the aerospace industry, for rail transportation systems, in farming to keep damage to the soil at a minimum by tractor tires and in a host of other industries. Macqueen will explain the product and its uses in layman’s terms so that it is easily understood.
