Bring your lunch, blanket and good cheer.
It is estimated by the World Health Organization that over one billion, 1/7th of people on this planet are living with some kind of neurological disorder. Brain injury can be apparent – a gash in the head, physical disability, or slurred speech. However, a brain injury is not always obvious, and one of the reasons why brain injury is known as “The Silent Epidemic.” People with brain injuries may still be able to present themselves well on initial introduction or for short periods of time. People with brain injuries are also very commonly misjudged as having psychological behavioral or personality problems, or as having mental illness. There are many misconceptions about brain injury, and this is what we are trying to change – the world needs an update!

Proceeds from the event support the National Lung Cancer Partnership’s life-changing research, education and awareness programs.
To register for this event or donate, visit http://www.FreetoBreathe.org/fortwayne.
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in Indiana and the United States, claiming the lives of more men and women than breast, colon and prostate cancers combined. Free to Breathe Fort Wayne will unite lung cancer survivors, families, friends and advocates to form a community of hope, acting as a local catalyst to create change for everyone affected by the disease. This year alone, more than 40 Free to Breathe events in 26 states will bring together tens of thousands of people to help increase awareness of the disease and raise funds for programs that help patients.
“Free to Breathe events connect people whose lives have been touched by lung cancer,” said event organizer Anita DeSelm of Fort Wayne, Ind. “Together, we’re building a movement of people committed to finding a cure for all types of lung cancer within our lifetime.”
In support of Free to Breathe Fort Wayne, community members, teams and local businesses will raise funds for the Partnership’s programs that make a difference in the lives of lung cancer patients and their loved ones.
Those who can’t participate in Free to Breathe Fort Wayne can take part in the National Walk Week happening Nov. 3 – Nov. 9. During this week, the Partnership invites supporters across the country to organize teams to raise funds and show solidarity by walking around the block, around the neighborhood or around town.

Please come join us, one and all, for the Brain Injury Global Picnic this Saturday, June 30th. It will be an afternoon of fun and frolic at the Jorgensen YMCA at 10313 Aboite Center Road in Fort Wayne from 1 to 3 p.m.
The Global Picnic, hosted throughout the world by survivors, families, and advocates, is an opportunity to celebrate survival from Traumatic Brain Injury and to learn more about a devastating and often “hidden” disability that can affect anyone, presenting in forms from concussion to coma. Come learn more about prevention and treatment of this neurological condition. Drinks and activities will be provided. The Parkview Foundation will offer ten bicycle helmets as prizes.
